China's domestic Linux and Open Source industry has been accused of falling behind the rest of the world in an editorial from the government owned People's Daily.

Siting a lack of direct chinese involvement in projects such as the linux kernel and the lack of innovation amongst domestic linux distributions, the People's Daily claims that "the only progress that seems to have been made by the Chinese companies is in product imitation, and this provides no return on such a huge investment".
